I’ve experienced that gap too! Being too theoretical rarely helps when it comes to getting things done in real life.

Absolutely, I totally get that. When learning is tied to real-world situations, it feels more meaningful—and that sense of purpose can make all the difference. CBL is great for that because it encourages hands-on thinking and lets you apply what you’ve learned in a practical way. It’s not just about memorizing facts; it’s about using them to make a difference, which definitely keeps motivation and focus high.

One challenge I face is staying motivated, especially when learning feels disconnected from real life. Through CBL, I could work on meaningful, real-world problems that align with my interests, which, as a consequence, would make the whole process more engaging and purposeful. It would also push me to think critically, and apply what I learn in practical ways, which would deepen my understanding of the topic and make learning more effective.

One thing I struggle with is remembering information for a long time. It’s easy to forget things when they don’t feel useful or connected to real life. CBL could really help with that because it gets me involved in hands-on, meaningful projects where I actually use what I’m learning. When I work on challenges that matter to me, I care more and that helps me retain the information more effectively. Plus, working with others lets me see different points of view, which helps me understand things on a deeper level.

I think you're completely right - it's always great to gain insights from others, as they may differ from things that we can personally think of. The whole process of collaboration can be very refreshing, and the understanding of the topic can become even more deeper thanks to it.

Currently, I’m preparing a proposal to restructure the content and layout of reports on the performance of robotic devices, with the goal of delivering more valuable information to managers and decision-makers in microbiology laboratories.
I believe that CBL is a promising method to approach this challenge. It encourages problem engagement, exploration of feasible solutions, stakeholder involvement in discussion, and the implementation of the most effective strategies.

I often struggle with staying focused on long projects and tend to lose motivation when the work feels too disconnected from real life. CBL could help by making learning more active and relevant, which would keep me more engaged and on track. I feel like it could also give me a clearer sense of purpose by showing how what I’m learning applies outside the classroom.

One challenge I face is staying motivated when I can’t see how theory connects to real life. Group work can also be tricky when responsibilities aren’t clear, and I often forget to reflect on what I’ve learned. CBL could help by making learning more practical and meaningful, improving teamwork through clear structure, and encouraging regular reflection so I can grow and better understand my progress.

For me, one of the main challenges is knowing how to start and structure a project properly. It’s easy to feel stuck or lose direction along the way. What I find interesting about CBL is that it puts you in charge of the challenge. You’re not just following pre-made materials, but actually building your own path. That kind of ownership makes it more engaging, because the learning depends on you, and that pushes you to stay motivated and involved.

Something I'm struggling with is poor study organisation due to vast amount of current subjects to be passed alongside with the ones that are overdued, so learning materials to be acquired, which causes fear, stress, and need of guidance. CBL tools could help me facilitate my learning process by starting from brainstorming on the causes of the effects making the biggest impact on my daily life, to finding the potential creative solutions and testing hypothesis if the chosen problem-solving methods can adapt to my live, so I can reduce the stress level and achieve the relevant goals.

The first challenge which comes to my mind is being involved actively in the studying process. Some of the subjects provide mostly theory, and do not give enough practical basis to understand how the things should work. If in this modules the CBL will be introduced, it would help to engage students in the process more and gain more skills

The only challenge that I have is focusing when learning does not appear to be relevant to real life. CBL can solve this by making learning more relevant and applicable. It promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and applies knowledge through problem-solving in real life.

One challenge I face is connecting theory with real-life situations. Sometimes it’s hard to see how what we learn in class applies outside of school. CBL can help by letting us solve real problems, which makes learning more practical and engaging. It also improves teamwork and helps build useful skills like problem-solving, communication, and creativity. This would make my learning more active and meaningful.

I often find it hard to structure the path of the challenge. Collaboration with others and the CBL framework in general helps to identify all the possible solutions while developing skills such as critical thinking and soft skills.

One of the main challenges I face during the learning process is applying theoretical knowledge in practice. I often learn a lot of information, but there is a lack of opportunities to use it in real-life situations. Additionally, I sometimes struggle with motivation to explore topics that, at first glance, seem to have little connection to everyday life or my professional path.

Sometimes, I struggle to communicate effectively with other group members, which can lead to misunderstandings and weaker collaboration. I believe CBL can help me improve in this area by encouraging teamwork and open communication. By working together to solve real-life challenges, I'll have more opportunities to practice sharing ideas clearly, listening to others, and contributing meaningfully to group discussions.

One challenge I face is applying what I learn to real situations, which makes studying feel boring and unnecessary. CBL could resolve this by allowing me to work on practical, real-world challenges, helping me see the purpose behind what I’m learning. It would also improve my problem-solving and teamwork skills, making my overall learning experience more dynamic and impactful.

I can relate to that! Applying what we learn to real situations can be tough, and it often makes studying feel disconnected from reality. CBL seems like a great solution because it brings learning to life through real-world challenges, which makes the content more meaningful.

Many students say that Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) helps them stay motivated and engaged, especially because it involves tackling real-life problems. And they’re right—this is one of the greatest strengths of the CBL framework. But there's another, sometimes overlooked, advantage: reflection. At university, theoretical subjects can feel abstract and disconnected from the "real world." But once you're in a full-time job, dealing with real challenges, theory suddenly becomes relevant again. Here's an example:
Imagine you’re a language teacher. One of your lessons is observed as part of a quality assurance process. The observers comment that you talk too much, and your students don’t get enough time to speak in the target language. You decide to include more pair and group work to maximise student talk time. But then you try it. The class dynamics are off—the students aren’t well acquainted with each other, and the lesson falls flat. This is where reflection comes in handy because you realise that your initial solution wasn’t enough. So, you go back to your methodology books and look for better strategies—not just to increase speaking time, but also to build group cohesion. That’s when theory starts to make sense again, because now you need it. My point is: just because theory doesn’t feel immediately useful, doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. Reflection helps you recognise when to lean back on theoretical knowledge.

One of the challenges I often face is staying fully engaged during traditional, lecture-based lessons, especially when the content feels disconnected from real-life application. I have troubles to focus in 100% on a lectire and the information the teacher is sharing with us. The CBL address these issues by making learning more relevant, interactive, and practical. I can understand how to apply my knowledge in real-life situations and push me to reflect how and what I want to learn.

In my program, I face challenges with pacing and mastering concepts at the right speed. CBL helps by letting me progress at my own pace and ensuring I master each skill before moving on. This flexibility also supports my startup, Whisper Health, allowing me to balance learning and growth, applying new knowledge directly to both my education and business. CBL enhances my learning by focusing on mastery and continuous feedback.
